I MET A MALIAN FRIEND (DAHAM VOL 2 MALI EDITION)

I posted a picture of a lady with gold necklace har touching her navel,  then suddendly i got a DM
she said hey, this lady is from Mali and she is from my tribe, this gold is nothing compared to what others wear!!!
before i knew it, mu kayi ta hira, the whole day!!! it was really intresting learning about a culture that is so similar to mine yet so different.
First of all the whole of MAli's population is 15million. i told her thats just one state in nigeria!! thats small wo  i said!!!
no we are normal, you people are just too massive!!! (Nigeria)
we are to be honest, 180mil no be joke!!!

i was taking aback by the amount of gold they wear!!! that what is happening lol

"Yes we wear to show the amount of wealth a family has!!! i am from one of the richest tribe in Mali and we just marry amongst our selves. mostly first cousins. this is done so that the wealth doesn't leave the Tribe"  our tribe is called the Djokoramai and its made up of just 11 families. every one is related!!!!
our ancestors are from Ethiopia,
A man can marry out side the tribe (that's after marrying from the tribe) but as a woman you can never marry an outsider"

so your weddings, what is it like i asked
"our weddings start on a week day and finishes 2 weeks later"
2 weeks ke?
yes two weeks
the first week is in the bed room then the final week is for celebration.
what do you mean in the bedroom
yes in the bed room. lol
first there is the wedding fatiha which is predominantly men done in a mosque.
Same day the bride is taking to the husband in a hotel room.
people would keep coming to see and congratulate them but non is suppose to see her face(only her husband)
in these few days she would only eat chicken, milk, cheese and a lot of water!! This is to make her fressh and light!!!There would be an elder woman that would sit and tell the bride all about the bed room, and how to take kia of your husbands needs.
within these days the marriage would be consummated.
Brides are meant to be virgins so as soon as its done old women would come take the bed sheets and celebrations start!!!! (dance and sing with the blood stained bed sheet) and the husband would now give her a gift usually gold necklace'

Afterwards there is what is called the"wedding cloth wash"  the cloth the husband wore on the day in za oza room lol she rinses it 3 times.

After that is when the gold dishing stars. for a week she is soppose to wear differnt heavy duty gold. every day!!!
a musician is invited and there is loads of eating and drinking."

my dear what if the girls aren't virgin yawa go shele be that!!
"well usually we marry very young 16 some times even younger so usually that problem isn't as regular"
oh and sadly genital mutilation (FGM stage 3) is still practiced in Mali. the two lips of the vagina are sewn together and its only opened surgically when you are about to get married!!!
not every one sha!! but most girls

i did a little googling to see what stage three mutilation is

(The clitoris and labia minora, together with the inner surface of the labia majora. The raw edges of the labia majora are brought together to fuse, using thorns, poultices or stitching to hold them in place, and the legs are tied together for 2-6 weeks. The healed scar creates a hood of skin which covers the urethra and part or most of the vagina, and which acts as a physical barrier to intercourse. A small opening is left at the back to allow for the flow of urine and menstrual blood. The opening is surrounded by skin and scar tissue and is usually 2-3 cm in diameter but may be as small as the head of a matchstick.)

that sounds painful my dear!!! "yes but thank GOD my mom isn't from the tribe so she kicked against it and we were exemted"
ALLAH daya gari ban ban (same land different cultures)

i love your men they are so romantic" Mali men are so unromantic, we have high rate of divorce mostly from really young girls and unromantic men!!!

Romantic ke i said!!!

yes i have been following #balce2017

"AH Mustapha indimi is on his own wo, we don't know which planet he is from!!!!
He is one in a trillion abeg!!! i said

so in a twist of events which i find really funny and so different from Nigeria is  a divorced woman gets more suitors (some times up to 20 men) than a girl that has never married. even her bride price is more
can you imagine lol!!! MALI i salute zawarawan arewa shall move to mali!!!

oh coming back to the gold part , lol do you know one of the girls in my tribe wore a gold jacket!!!!
kini?
yes gold jacket!!!!
i sat down wo dey wait for gold jacket!!! my phone come die!!! ha!! i jumped up har da tintibe got charger to recharge and feed my eyes!!! as i charge i was wondering how gold jacket go come be!!!!
it is actually a vest!! but my dear who does gold vest abeg!!!!!! 😨

"the tiara and the vest cost like $55,000 each coz i think its 1kg each) yan uwa 1000grms fa!!!
 unbelivable!!!!

but you know we do gold but we dont have private gets. she said!!!
